Lambeth Council and its development partner London Square have launched a public consultation on plans to redevelop Brixton town centre.

The jv plans to redevelop a site at 49 Brixton Station Road, SW9, that has been occupied by Pop Brixton since 2015, and the former council offices 6 Canterbury Crescent, which has been used as affordable workspace since 2018.

London Square’s proposal includes developing more than 200 homes, half of which will be delivered as social rent and shared ownership/London Living Rent.

The former council offices will be retained and refurbished to provide more than 84,000 sq ft workspace for local businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups, with 20% secured as affordable workspace.

The proposal also includes a new car park, storage space and waste compound facilities.

London Square chief executive Adam Lawrence said: “This is an opportunity for local people to help shape this landmark project that will bring significant investment into central Brixton and more jobs for Brixton residents.

“Our focus is to work with Lambeth and the local community to provide well-designed, affordable homes of the highest quality for local people and families – with attractive green public spaces to improve the surrounding area.”

Lambeth Council deputy leader and cabinet member for sustainable growth and new homes Danny Adilypour said: “We are committed to involving the local community in these exciting plans for the centre of Brixton, which will deliver genuinely affordable housing, space for local businesses and better facilities for residents.

“Their contribution will be vital to making sure the project reflects the views of local people.
