Historic object London Stone has returned to 111 Cannon Street, EC4, after two years in the Museum of London.
To mark the completion of a new commercial development from London & Oriental, Lord Mayor of London Charles Bowman unveiled the reinstated landmark at its original address this week.
Savills, on behalf of London & Oriental, and jointly with Allsop, is marketing the new building, designed by Fletcher Priest Architects. It provides 20,507 sq ft of grade-A office and retail space.
The origin of the limestone block is unknown. It was first mentioned in the 12th century but it is thought to have stood in London since prehistoric times and was probably part of a substantial Roman building, which was on the site of what is now Cannon Street Station.
Loris Tinacci, partner at London & Oriental, said: “111 Cannon Street is situated in a prime core City location opposite Cannon Street Station and a two-minute walk from Bank Station.
“The new development will deliver a first-class building designed with the occupier at the forefront in a highly desirable location while preserving the history of the address and ensuring London Stone will remain in its original home on Cannon Street for many years to come.”
