London’s resi tower pipeline slows

Tall building planning applications and construction starts in London during 2017 were down by 10% and 30%, respectively, on 2016’s totals.

Political and economic uncertainty are, in part, thought to be behind the slowdown.

The tall building schemes that are coming through the planning system and starting construction are, increasingly, in the outer London boroughs – zones 3, 4 and 5 – and, mirroring the wider new-build housing market, are aimed at build-to-rent operators.
