Longbridge decision may not come before March 30

The future of Rover’s Longbridge plant may not now be disclosed until March 30 when parent company BMW delivers its annual results.

There had been speculation there might be an announcement today after a meeting of BMW’s supervisory board. But the company said it could not make a decision until it received clear indications of the total extent of government aid available. The Daily Telegraph claims the government has rushed its offer through to BMW in time for today’s meeting.

The department of trade and industry had previously indicated it could provide a £150-£200m for the Birmingham factory.
