Longbridge resi scheme wins consent

St Modwen and Persimmon Homes have won consent for the first phase of a residential development on the former Longbridge East site in Worcestershire.

The developer and housebuilder, which have formed a joint venture, are to build 229 homes on the site in Cofton Hackett.

Bromsgrove council has also approved an additional application from St Modwen for up to 725 new homes and a small community centre across the overall site.

The first phase, a mix of private and affordable properties, will be delivered by Persimmon.

Richard Hickman, planning manager for St Modwen, said: “The Longbridge Area Action Plan identified the Longbridge East site primarily for new housing, and feedback gathered at a public consultation event showed that local people were supportive of the plans.”

The new Longbridge town centre, which is currently under construction, will bring investment at the former MG Rover site up to £250m since it was acquired by St Modwen in 2003. This investment includes the development of the Technology Park, Cofton Centre and the £66m new Bournville College, which opened in September 2011.
