Farrho Developments, Lonrho’s development arm, has submitted an outline planning application for a £50m leisure and retail scheme on South Union Street in central Oldham, Greater Manchester.
The development will comprise a 130,000 sq ft (12,077 sq m) department store fronting Union Street, 150,000 sq ft (13,935 sq m) of leisure facilities and 1,500 car parking spaces.The total site area is 16.06 acres (6.5 hectares)
The leisure element will consist of a 12-screen multiplex cinema, a ten-pin bowling alley, a games centre, four restaurants, two night clubs and theme bars. Farrho has linked up with Rank Group to develop and run the leisure scheme.
The council will consider the planning application early next year. Work is expected to start at the end of 1997 with completion due at the end of 1998.
