Lord Heseltine’s sacking leaves key advisory roles vacant

Heseltine-THUMB.jpegLord Michael Heseltine’s sacking from government has left five key advisory roles vacant.

The former Conservative deputy prime minister was dismissed last night after rebelling over Brexit by supporting the demand for a parliamentary vote on the final deal to be written into legislation.

The sacking means he will leave his government advisory roles, which include:

  • Co-chair of estate regeneration advisory panel set by David Cameron in 2016 to plan the regeneration of up to 100 estates
  • Adviser to the secretary of state for communities and local growth
  • National infrastructure commissioner
  • Chairman of Tees Valley inward investment initiative
  • Swansea city deal adviser

Heseltine told BBC Radio 4 this morning: “Sometimes in politics there are issues which transcend party politics; in the end you have to be your own person. I believe our interests are intertwined with Europe. I am not prepared to change.”

He said the sacking was a “great disappointment”, adding: “For six years I have had the incredible privilege of working inside the Whitehall machine with civil servants helping ministers to make decisions.”
