Households with below-average income are spending a third or more of their disposable income on rent or mortgages, according to low pay think-tank The Resolution Foundation.
Some 2.2 million of these households are left with an average of £135 a week after paying rent or mortgages, the foundation finds.
Meanwhile, households in low-cost rental properties are paying a third of disposable income in one in five local authority areas, and in every local authority in London.
