The controversial eight-and-a-half mile £100m Newbury bypass, in Berkshire, has opened without incident in a low-key ceremony. The ceremony was kept secret until just eight hours beforehand.
It completes the final stretch of dual carriageway on the A34 from the Midlands to the South Coast.
