Residents and councillors in famed foodie-paradise Ludlow are attempting to scotch plans by Pizza Express to open a branch in the medieval town.
The pizza chain wants to open a branch on Castle Street, outside the Shropshire town’s 11th century castle. But locals say that it will do nothing to enhance the offer of the town, which prides itself on locally-sourced food, and could open the floodgates to other chains.
“It could be worse,” said secretary of the Ludlow Chamber of Commerce Tish Dockery. “It could be McDonald’s or Pizza Hut – but Pizza Express is still not in keeping.”
