A wine storage and distribution centre in Luton is set to be turned into a Bollywood film and television production studio, after plans were given the go-ahead this week.
Members of Luton Borough Council’s development management committee unanimously approved plans for Pooja Studios to convert the 42,700 sq ft Dallow Road facility, occupied by the International Wine Centre, into a studio with offices.
Production areas will account for 27,700 sq ft, while the ancillary offices will measure 11,900 sq ft. The remaining space will be allocated to training. The car parking facilities will also have scope to include two bus bays.
In previous reports recommending the scheme for approval, principal planning officer Graham Dore highlighted the “cultural opportunity” that would “serve to enhance social capital within Luton’s economy and diverse community”.
He said: “The proposed use would be unique within the borough and would assist in establishing Luton as a cultural hub within the sub-region, which is an important aspiration for the council.”
