Luxury flats at MacDonald House approved

MacDonald-House-W1-THUMB.jpegA redevelopment of the Canadian High Commission’s former Mayfair HQ into luxury apartments has gained approval.

Westminster city council approved plans by Mumbai-based developer Lodha Group to convert 125,000 sq ft MacDonald House, W1, into 41 flats.

Approval for the MSMT Architects-designed scheme at 1-3 Grosvenor Square came despite the scheme’s lack of on-site affordable housing.

Instead, the developer offered either to pay £22m towards the council’s affordable housing fund, or to provide 10 flats off-site at Dorset Close and a £13.3m payment in lieu.

The Canadian government sold its High Commission in Mayfair to Lodha in November 2013 for C$530m (£306m).

DP9 advised on planning.
