Developer LXB Retail Properties is submitting a major detailed planning application to Sutton council for a 6-acre site in the town centre.
LXB plans to redevelop the site of empty offices, warehousing and gas holders into a 116,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s, a 120-bed hotel for Accor and 150 homes, as well as 20,000 sq ft of leisure.
The application will be submitted in January following a two-day public exhibition.
Mike Schorah, managing director of The Harris Partnership, which is acting for LXB, said: “This scheme will provide a major boost to Sutton town centre, create jobs and improve the aesthetics of a key site. The fact that Sainsbury’s and Accor, two leading names in their respective fields, have committed to the project at such an early stage in its development is great news.”
