Residents of Lymm, in Cheshire, are urging Warrington council to reject plans by Danish discount chain Netto to open a branch in their village.
Property developer Brookhouse revealed plans for a new food store last May, saying talks were taking place with “high-quality retailers.” Planning permission was given, but the identity of the retailer remained a secret.
Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Marks said Netto had not been what people expected, and that “rightly or wrongly Netto is perceived to be a downmarket company.”
