Plans are underway to build the world’s largest Marks & Spencer store at Hammerson’s Brent Cross shopping centre in north west London. It will be bigger than 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft).
Work has already begun on redeveloping Brent Cross, which will be so large that the centre has asked Barnet council for permission to divert the River Brent. M&S already has a 5,667 sq m (61,000 sq ft) store which will close if the new one opens.
M&S is expected to pay around £3,229 per sq m (£300 per sq ft) but a possible rent reduction in return for a cut in profits is being discussed.
