M&S to sign for Cardiff City stadium scheme

Marks & Spencer (M&S) will be unveiled later today as the latest tenant to sign to a 430,000 sq ft retail park that will underpin the cost of a new stadium for Cardiff City FC.

M&S is to take 49,000 sq ft at the Capital Retail Park, which is being developed by Capital & Regional Cardiff, a joint venture between Cardiff-based PMG and Capital & Regional.

The retailer will join the scheme’s anchor tenant Costco, which has agreed to be the park’s biggest occupier with a store of 135,000 sq ft.

Asda is taking a freehold interest to develop a an 88,000 sq ft store, while sports chain JJB Sports has also agreed to occupy a 35,000 sq ft two-storey building at the park in the Leckwith area of the city.

The park is due to open next May, with some of the cash generated from the site being reverted to fund a 25,000 sq ft stadium due for completion in spring 2009.

PMG’s directors include Mike Hall, the former British Lions and Wales rugby centre who is also a board member of Cardiff City.
