MAG checks in £650m Airport City plans

Manchester Airports Group has submitted plans for its £650m Airport City scheme.

The 65-acre project, in Greater Manchester’s Enterprise Zone, would comprise almost 2m sq ft of commercial space.

The outline planning application relating to land to the north of the airport’s terminals and railway station, proposes 1.2m sq ft of offices; 530,000 sq ft of manufacturing space; 62,000 sq ft of shops; 1,300 hotel bedrooms and a 13-acre central park area.

A Metrolink tram extension to Airport City will also be built.

MAG’s Airport City director, John Atkins, said: “Airport City will attract investment from international businesses and become a catalyst for the wider long-term regeneration of Wythenshawe, with the creation of thousands of new jobs. The planning submission demonstrates the progress we have made in the past 12 months and is a major step forward towards starting work on site.”
