Maghull reveals £100m plans for Liverpool’s Hope Street

Hope Street, Liverpool

Merseyside developer Maghull Group has submitted four planning applications for buildings on Hope Street within Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter.

The plans include a mix of offices, retail, leisure, hotel and residential space in five properties for which it was appointed development partner by John Moores University last year.

Plans for Josephine Butler House, at the junction of Hope Street and Myrtle Street, include 20,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant units and 115,000 sq ft of grade A offices.

The Hahnemann Building at 42 Hope Street will be turned into a 63 bedroom “five-star luxury boutique hotel”, while 68 Hope Street and 2 Blackburne Place will be refurbished to provide a total of 54 flats.

Michael Hanlon, managing director of Maghull, said: “The proposals provide a mix of uses which will undoubtedly enhance the vitality and viability of the city’s Georgian Quarter, while providing a substantial boost to the local economy in terms of job creation and enhancing the city’s tourism offer.”

He added: “The Georgian Quarter and Hope Street in particular is already renowned for world class architecture and proposals for a £100m investment will see some of the city’s best Georgian properties refurbished to a very high standard and given a new lease of life.”

Maghull Group owns more than 750,000 sq ft of property in Merseyside and Greater Manchester and has a development programme with an end value in excess of £400m.

The Hope Street plans are expected to be considered by Liverpool city council at the start of next year, with work poised to begin next summer.
