Maidenhead town centre developer sought

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is inviting bids from developers to regenerate part of Maidenhead town centre.

The council is putting forward 4 acres of its land on York Road and seeking a development partner to draw up plans for a mixed-use scheme, comprising offices, housing and leisure facilities. It has not put a cap on the size of buildings developers can propose.

Councillor MJ Saunders, cabinet member with responsibility for property issues, said: “We want to develop a strong relationship with a partner that is innovative and has the capacity and funds to match our aspirations for the regeneration of this important area of our town. We also want quality design-and-build for such a high-profile area and, fortunately, as the major landowner, the council can push for a scheme that will help restore vibrancy, life and colour to the town centre.”

York Road is one of a number of sites the council has brought forward as a Maidenhead town centre redevelopment opportunity. Other plots include the West Street hotel and offices.

The council’s action plan has called for the York Road development to be a “vibrant, high quality and memorable area around a public square”.
