Major fire in Manchester city centre

A commercial building in Manchester city centre has been gutted by a fire, which has spread to a second building.

The fire, which broke out at a five-storey building on Dale Street, has been brought under control by more than 100 firefighters.

However, embers from the blaze have blown to a block opposite and started a second fire in the commercial and residential building.

The first building was gutted by the fire and is in danger of collapse.

A number of streets including Dale Street, Lever Street, Hilton Street, Newton Street and part of Oldham Road are closed, and traffic in the area is severely disrupted.
