Mall-to-resi redevelopment team unveiled

RIBA Stirling Prize-winning architect Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios has been appointed by Manchester-based developer PJ Livesey to bring forward the residential-led redevelopment of Chorlton shopping centre.

PJ Livesey was selected by the Greater Manchester Pension Fund to take forward the south Manchester project last month.

A framework for the 3.2-acre site, bounded by Barlow Moor Road, Wilbraham Road and Nicolas Road, suggest some 190 homes could be delivered.

PJ Livesey development director James Woodmansee said: “The site presents a huge opportunity to create something very special that not only provides a wide mix of new housing but serves the mix of retail operators that make Chorlton so special.”

Public consultation on plans for the site will begin in early summer with aims to have initial designs ready before the end of the summer. A detailed planning application is anticipated to be submitted in early 2024.

Avison Young is advising on planning. LTL has been retained as retail adviser on the scheme.
