The Government has awarded the management team of Chiltern Railways (CR) a seven-year rail franchise in return for a commitment to order 12 new 100mph diesel express trains. CR has teamed up with John Laing, the construction group and 3i, the development capital company, to form M40 Trains. The line serves High Wycombe, Banbury, Aylesbury and Birmingham.
