Manchester City Council has named David Lynch as its new director for development and estates.
Lynch is currently assistant director for regeneration at Bury Council, where he leads its development and regeneration programmes.
He previously worked in the private sector for developer Urban Splash, as head of regeneration and land at Placefirst and as a consultant at Gerald Eve.
Lynch will take up his new role in March next year. He will work with developers and investors on live projects, identifying future development opportunities to attract new investment into Manchester.
Lynch said: “Working with our partners on pioneering projects has the potential to transform the cityscape but we know that there is more opportunity – Manchester is an industrious place which is very much open for business – and I look forward to working with the city’s existing business community while unlocking investable opportunities for new entrants.”
Bev Craig, councillor and leader elect of Manchester City Council, said: “The pandemic has hit city economies hard and our route to recovery is paved by driving sustainable growth to fuel economic prosperity in the coming years.
“Manchester has an ambitious programme of development which will underpin this recovery but spotting opportunities to support our continued growth will be essential in the coming years.”
