Developer Northside looks set to get the go-ahead for a new tower and the transformation of a Grade II listed building into a hotel at Manchester Piccadilly.
Officers have recommended the city council planning committee votes in favour of the proposals, lodged in December 2023, at a meeting on Thursday next week.
Northside is looking to build a 34-storey tower on the land at 14-16 Piccadilly and convert the adjacent former Union Bank building at 12 Piccadilly into an aparthotel. The scheme includes a ground-floor café, first-floor exhibition hall, and a rooftop bar and restaurant.
The developer acquired the site late in 2022, thanks to a £3.5m loan facility from Cheadle-based lender Together. The proposed scheme, which will have 251 bedrooms, is expected to deliver £1.9m GVA to the Manchester economy.
Northside has claimed the aparthotel will be the UK’s first net-zero tower, where construction and operation will not contribute to climate change.
If approved, the aparthotel comprising a mix of studios, and one- and two-bedrooms, will be operated by room2.
