Manchester residential plans resurrected

plans-THUMB.jpegDarren Whitaker’s Renaker Build is close to finalising a deal with Manchester city council to build out a 3,700-home masterplan on the city’s southern edge.

Renaker has been lined up to take part ownership of two sites on Great Jackson Street and Crown Street, and will be appointed the council’s development partner. The deal is contingent on the outcome of consultation for a new development framework for the Southern Gateway area.

The sites are the largest in the Great Jackson Street masterplan, previously earmarked for a 3.9m sq ft development in 2007.

That project was shelved and the sites – owned by Peugeot and the council respectively – were put up for sale in October 2014 with a price tag of around £30m.

The former Peugeot site on Great Jackson Street is expected to accommodate 1,300 homes, including a 38-storey tower. A further 1,100 homes are earmarked for the council’s site on Crown Street, including four towers of up to 58 storeys.

Colliers International and Cummings Commercial advised the council; Gerald Eve acted for Peugeot.
