Manchester City Council has unveiled its framework for delivering 1,500 homes and over 333,000 sq ft of commercial space in Ancoats and New Islington.
The council has outlined how it is to develop out its Poland Street Zone mixed-use scheme, phase three of its wider Ancoats and New Islington neighbourhood and development framework scheme.
The framework outlined that the Poland Street Zone scheme is “critical in delivering a significant number of new homes to support the city’s growth” and has capacity to create a new commercial area of the city.
Five key areas sit within the Poland Street development. The area around Jersey Street will be mixed-use homes and workspace buildings, George Leigh Street will be a residential and community space area, Oldham Road will offer residential, office, retail and food and beverage space, a wharfside residential area will be created overlooking the Rochdale canal, and the final area will offer homes and public space. Ancoats Green will be redeveloped to offer updated green and public spaces.
To unlock development, the council said it is in “continued discussions with significant landlowners” to work together to deliver the framework.
The framework will be put to the council’s executive committee this Friday, and is recommended to approve the plans.
