Manchester supercasino thrown into doubt

Plans for a supercasino in Manchester have been thrown into doubt as the government dropped plans to put the issue before Parliament, according to a House of Commons briefing paper. The paper said the government would only bring back legislation to introduce 16 smaller casinos. The Commons librarian claimed a Department for Culture, Media and Sport official had told him the supercasino would be left “for later consideration” but later retracted the note, denying he had been pressured into changing his position.   14/06/07 Times 2
