The University of Manchester is seeking a joint venture partner to deliver its £1.5bn North Campus site.
The site spans 16.4 acres and is currently occupied by the university’s teaching and research teams. It includes green space and a 620,000 sq ft Grade II listed building on Sackville Street.
In an OJEU procurement, the university said: “The development will be required to attract science, research, development, cultural and technology companies, as well as accommodating new residential space, creating a destination in its own right.
“The site development and use will focus on specialities that combine the research and industrial strengths of the university and the city region with national economic priorities, such as advanced materials, health innovation, artificial intelligence, digital technology and industrial biotechnology, which are key areas for Manchester’s industrial strategy.”
The university will retain the freehold for the site. The jv partners will procure and carry out infrastructure works, undertake direct development, secure occupiers and dispose of completed development parcels.
The district, known as ID Manchester, covers 26 acres on the south-east side of Manchester city centre. It is adjacent to Manchester’s Piccadilly Station, which will be the arrival point for HS2.
