The Arch Company plans to transform 10 derelict railway arches on Manchester’s Corporation Street into new spaces for leisure, food and drink, and retail occupiers.
The £4m redevelopment would include the installation of glazed frontages, service, drainage and internal lining to make the site dry and ready for tenants to move in.
The Arch Company, owned by Blackstone and Telereal Trillium, has proposed to keep the industrial heritage of the arches.
Proposals submitted to Manchester City Council form a part of the firm’s £200m Project 1000, which aims to bring empty and derelict spaces across England and Wales into use by 2030.
Rob Roddy, portfolio asset manager at the Arch Company, said: “We see incredible potential in these railway arches.
“As part of our development plan, Project 1000, we are committed to investing in 1,000 spaces by 2030 and hope these arches in Manchester will form part of these plans.”
The Arch Company became an owner of 253 spaces across Manchester and Salford in 2019. Following the acquisition of 5,200 spaces from Network Rail, 1,400 of which were vacant at the time of the transaction. Some of the spaces are already being regenerated, including on Manchester’s Temperance Street and Bennett Street.
