Manns joins Tunstall for first post-Europa Capital role

Noel Manns

Noel Manns, co-founder of Europa Capital, has joined Tunstall Real Estate Asset Management as a senior advisor in his first commercial role since leaving the fund manager.

Manns had taken a year out from the industry to focus on charity work, having left Europa after building it into a €9bn business backed by Japan’s Mitsubishi Estate.

He is also a property advisor to the New University in Hereford, a trustee of the Henry Smith Charity, which manages an endowment of more than £1bn, and is the chairman of the Trustees of the Conservative Agents’ Pension Fund.

Tunstall is an associate business of M7 Real Estate and can utilise its infrastructure. It is backed by directors of the firm, although its ownership is different and separate. Europa was one of M7’s first backers shortly after it was established in 2009, forming two joint ventures to buy UK multi-let industrial assets totalling around £250m.

Tunstall is a pan-European alternative investment fund platform established in 2016 and considers direct and indirect investment opportunities, including senior and mezzanine debt, public to private deals, convertible securities and equities.

Manns joins Tunstall’s advisory board, which also includes fellow senior advisors Steve Smith,  the former British Land chief investment officer and global head of asset management and transactions at AXA REIM, and Gerald Parkes, a founding partner of Property Capital Partners Europe.

In June last year, alongside Starwood Capital, Tunstall bought regeneration company Pinnacle Group from the Cheng family, which specialises in long-term local authority partnerships. Last week Pinnacle appointed Claire Kober, the former Haringey Council leader, as its new director of housing.

Roger Clarke, chief executive of Tunstall, said: “Noel’s breadth of experience, not just in investment management and real estate finance, but also in the not for profit sectors, brings a new additional source of knowledge into Tunstall. The appointment of such a highly experienced and well-regarded individual as Noel is reflective of the strong ambitions we have for Tunstall and I look forward to working with him as we continue to execute our strategy for growth.”

Manns added: “I have known the team that is building Tunstall for many years and have been very impressed with the progress made and deals they have executed to date. This is exactly the sort of young, energetic and innovative new firm I would like to help to grow, and I look forward to working with Roger and his team.”
