Mansfield Brewery plans redevelopment of Leicester’s Corn Exchange

Mansfield Brewery plans to redevelop the listed, 1,700 sq m (18,300 sq ft) Corn Exchange in Leicester’s Marketplace as a cafe and nightclub.

Mansfield proposes to take a 125-year lease on the building, the freehold of which is held by the Council. Steve Price of Mansfield Brewery believes the whole redevelopment will cost £1m.

Leicester City Council’s Property Services Committee has already given the scheme its approval. The scheme now goes before a full council meeting next Thursday.

Price has confirmed that if the scheme wins council approval, detailed planning consent will be sought early next year.

The 145-year-old Corn Exchange has been vacant since 1991. The council began marketing the scheme in 1994.
