Mansford drinks to SA Brain Cardiff HQ venture

Mansford Holdings and Welsh brewing giant SA Brain & Co are toasting a joint venture that will see the pubs and beer company move to a four-acre (1.62ha) distribution headquarters in Cardiff.

The agreement will also see Brain Mansford Estates acquire the Welsh capital’s former Britvic depot from Scudder Threadneedle as a replacement warehouse and distribution centre.

SA Brain has signed a 25-year lease at an undisclosed rent from Brain Mansford for the former soft drinks site at Cardiff Business Park, comprising 85,000 sq ft (7,900 sq m) of warehouse and office buildings.

SA Brains existing 11-acre (4.4ha) distribution centre in Maes-y-Coed road is likely to be sold by the company for housing, for which outline consent already exists.

The relocation is due to be completed by March next year, the brewers operations director Jim Kerr said.

“There has been a requirement to move our logistics and distribution centre from Maes-y-Coed Road and so we are delighted to have identified and acquired a suitable alternative site within the city,” he said.

“The new premises offer all the necessary space and facilities in an easily accessible, prime industrial area of Cardiff and by signing a long lease, we have reinforced our commitment to having our own members of staff responsible for the delivery of our products and looking after our customers needs.”

Mansford director Charles Knight added: “The creation of a new joint venture company is in line with our continued expansion in the corporate real estate sector.”

Cooke & Arkwright and Gooch Webster acted for Scudder Threadneedle.

SA Brain and Mansford Holdings are also involved in the creation of a Covent Garden-style £25m development of retail outlets, café bars, restaurants, office suites and 42 loft-style apartments at the Old Brewery Quarter in Cardiff.
