Mapletree head joins London developer for life sciences push

London-focused developer LS Estates has appointed Paul Bailey as its first managing director of life sciences and asset management.

Bailey has 25 years of direct real estate experience, most recently as head of the UK and Ireland at Mapletree Investments, the listed Singaporean real estate business.

At Mapletree, Bailey managed £3.5bn of assets spread across a range of sectors, including life sciences, offices, logistics and industrial.

Before Mapletree, Bailey was a partner at Strutt & Parker and head of asset management at shopping centre developer Sovereign Centros.

His appointment comes after LS Estates was appointed to support Oaktree and GIC in the development of 17 Columbus Courtyard, a £300m life sciences hub in Canary Wharf, E14.

LS Estates managing director Mark Swetman said: “Appointing someone with Paul’s track record will bolster LS Estates’ leadership team and accelerate our growth in both the life science and technology sectors as well as regional markets.

“2023 is shaping up to be a really exciting year for LS Estates and Paul’s knowledge and experience will ensure we continue to grow as an operating partner across many of real estate’s most exciting sectors.”

Bailey added: “Life sciences is among the most attractive sectors to investors right now and London is well placed to create the hubs that operators are demanding. LS Estates’ commitment to responsible development is critical and I look forward to working with partners to capitalise on the potential the business, the sector and the city offers.”
