Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White is to open a Steakhouse Bar and Grill restaurant on the whole of the top floor of The Cube in Birmingham.
The Michelin star chef will make his debut in the city with a 14,000 sq ft restaurant, which will be Birmingham’s first rooftop eatery with panoramic views over the city. The deal was brokered by Sanguine Hospitality in a £10m investment in the scheme. Sanguine will be the leisure anchor for The Cube, as it is also opening a four-star boutique hotel on the two floors below the restaurant as well as a luxury health club and spa.
The restaurant will open by the end of Q2 2011.
Commenting on the deal, which was struck this week, Pierre White said: “There is a clear appetite for affordable glamour and quality food in the West Midlands and we are aiming to satisfy that desire in the very heart of Birmingham. The restaurant will be somewhere for friends and family to gather in relaxed surroundings and enjoy simple food, cooked perfectly.”
Neil Edginton, a director at The Cube, added: “The restaurant will be 70 metres above the city and will offer something completely unique. It will be a top notch dining experience but also open to everybody – you won’t have to have won the lottery to dine there. We always wanted to make the top of the building open to everyone and we didn’t want to price people out of the restaurant.”
The news follows recent announcements about fellow celebrity chefs opening in Birmingham, such as Jamie Oliver, who opened the largest Jamie’s Italian restaurant in the UK at Brindleyplace last month, and Antonio Carluccio, who opened at Brindleyplace.
The deal marks a turnaround in The Cube’s fortunes since it was put into administration in March this year. The Highways Agency has now moved into half of the building’s 100,000 sq ft of office space and residents are starting to move into the building’s apartments.
