Market wrap: British Land a rare FTSE 100 faller as stocks jump

London equity markets were given a boost on Monday, with the FTSE 100 gaining 2.4% to reach 5,937 and the FTSE 250 up almost 1.7% at 17,642.

The lift left only three FTSE 100 stocks nursing a fall, one of which was British Land, which edged down by about 0.3% to close at 351.8p per share. The other two FTSE 100 REITs, SEGRO and Landsec, were up by 0.9% and 0.4%, respectively.

In the FTSE 250, there were increases for IWG (up 5.5%), St Modwen (4%), Savills (3%) and Big Yellow (up 2.3% as the self-storage specialist confirmed planning approval for new sites).

Real estate-focused companies trading down included Capco (falling 3.2%), PPHE Hotel Group (-2.9%), BMO Commercial Property Trust (-2.6%) and Shaftesbury (-1%).
