Market wrap: British Land and Landsec start the week with a stumble

London’s blue-chip index started the week with a near 1% drop, the FTSE 100 shedding 63 points to close at 7,072.

Burberry Group led the fall, down by almost 9% to a month-plus low on the unexpected news that its chief executive is leaving at the end of the year. The company was joined on the list of the index’s steepest fallers by British Land, which dropped by 4% to 498.2p, and Landsec, down by 3.3% at 675.2p.

Housebuilder Crest Nicholson topped the FTSE 350’s risers, up by 4.2% to finish the session at 429.2p.

The day’s biggest real estate rise came from chartered surveyor Fletcher King, which gained almost a fifth to hit a post-Covid high of 41p. The most notable fall was posted by Capital & Regional, dropping by 8.4% to close at 72p.
