Empiric Student Property was the top-performing REIT on the London Stock Exchange today, after its shares rose by 3.11% to 66.4p.
Schroders built its stake in the student housing provider to 5.1% earlier today, having previously owned less than 5%.
At the other end of the scale, Ediston Property Investment posted the biggest decline out of the listed landlords. Shares in Ediston fell by 5% to 53.2p.
Elsewhere, housebuilder Persimmon was one of the biggest fallers on the FTSE 100, with its shares falling by 4.25% to 2,543p.
Retailers JD Sports and Frasers Group also posted share price declines. Shares in JD Sports dropped by 4.09% to 619.2p, while Frasers’ shares were down by 6.61% to 288.4p.
It emerged this morning that the latter will vacate its House of Fraser premises in Richmond in Greater London, with the property set to be turned into a mix of offices, retail and leisure.
At the end of trading, the FTSE 100 stood at 6,179.75, inching up 0.06%, while the FTSE 250 closed down 1.21% at 17,174.69.
