Hopes that coronavirus-driven restrictions could soon start to be eased in countries across Europe may have helped to buoy the FTSE 100 to its highest level since the UK entered lockdown today. The index closed up 1.91% and nearly broke through the 6,000 points barrier.
Cineworld was one of the biggest gainers of the day, rising more than 17% to 63.36p per share after a rocky few weeks following the closure of its 787 cinemas across 10 countries.
That led to the business suspending its dividend payments earlier this month and entering negotiations with its landlords, lenders, major suppliers and film studios.
It was joined on the list of top risers by Regional REIT, which saw its shares gain almost 13% to close at 79p, while Alternative Income REIT’s shares also gained around 10%, finishing the day at 50p.
The Restaurant Group was among the day’s sharpest fallers, down by 4.9% to 52.30p per share. Henry Boot closed 3.6% lower at 238p.
