Housebuilders and contractors saw some of the largest gains in the London market, boosted by a return to construction sites and updates on the business impact of Covid-19.
Morgan Sindall rose 6.14% to 1,280p, following an upbeat trading update with progress on site restarts and a solid group order book.
In the FTSE 250, Vistry rose 6.37% to 810p and Redrow was up by 4.78% to 473p.
Countryside bucked the trend. After announcing plans to reopen 80% of sites next week, the regeneration specialist closed the day down 2.48% at 385p.
Elsewhere in the FTSE 100, InterContinental Hotel Group jumped after a trading update.
