Market wrap: Hammerson, intu and other REITs rise in FTSE surge

As the FTSE 100 hit another lockdown high today, some of the market’s best-known REITs saw their shares soar.

The FTSE 100 ended the day at 6,115, a rise of 2.6% and the first time the index of London’s largest listed companies has been above 6,000 points since early March.

Hammerson’s share price closed at 71.48p, up 11%, while fellow shopping centre owner intu Properties gained 7.3% to close at 5.9p.

NewRiver REIT, another retail-focused investor, was up 7.7% at 67.2p.

There were also sizeable gains for British Land and Landsec, both of which ended the day up by more than 5%.
