Market wrap: Hotels rise in holiday drive

The UK’s largest listed hotel operators were among the biggest risers today, amid continued calls to boost Britain’s travel industry.

PPHE Group, Whitbread and InterContinental Hotels Group all jumped, with similar climbs from travel operators but few FTSE 350 rises from real estate plcs and REITs.

In the FTSE 250, PPHE Group rose 5.16% to 1,120p. In the FTSE 100, Premier Inn owner Whitbread climbed 2.55% to 2,457p and IHG crept up 1.21% to 4,430p.

Elsewhere, online portal Purplebricks continued to rocket, surging 8.59% to 92.3p, following a 7.59% rise yesterdayCapital and Regional was up 6.71% to 70p and Countrywide rose 4.55% to 151.7p.

The FTSE 100 dropped 0.75% to 6,000 and the FSTE 250 inched up 0.05% to 17,762.
