Market wrap: Housebuilders dominate FTSE risers

Housebuilders accounted for some of the sharpest share price rises in London trading on Friday.

Half of the companies on the London Stock Exchange’s list of the eight highest-rising stocks for the day were from the sector.

Those included Taylor Wimpey, which gained 2.6% at 171.4p a share, the index’s best-performing stock behind the London Stock Exchange Group.

Persimmon rose by 2.4% to 3,160p, Barratt Developments by 2.3% to 756.4p, and Berkeley Group by 1.9% to 4,679p.

In the FTSE 250, the sharpest rising stocks were Vistry Group (up 4.3% to a 15-month high of 1,325p) and Crest Nicholson (posting a 3.8% rise to 458.2p, also a 15-month high).

The FTSE 100 finished the day almost flat, edging up by 0.04% or 3 points to 7,022. The FTSE 250 rose by 25 points, or 0.1%, to 22,683.
