Market wrap: Palace Capital leads REIT gains

Palace Capital was the top REIT riser on the stock exchange today, with shares jumping by 4.3% to end the day at 240p.

FTSE All-Share peer U+I Group was another top performer, up 3.4% at 90p.

Other notable real estate gains included McKay Securities, up 3.3% at 233p, and Town Centre Securities, up 1.5% at 131p.

Elsewhere, shares in Tesco rose by nearly 6% after it reported an uplift in half-year profit and raised its full-year guidance.

The supermarket’s share price reached 268p, following a better-than-expected increase in half-year sales.

The grocer also outlined plans to open three more urban fulfilment centres by April next year, bringing its total count to five.

The FTSE 100 index ended the day down 1.1% at 6,995, and the FTSE 250 closed down 1.5% at 22,386.
