Market wrap: Schroders rallies in share buyback launch

Schroder REIT and Shaftesbury were among the top REIT risers on the stock exchange today, defying an overall downbeat market.

Schroder posted an 8.4% share price rise to 31.1p, after kicking off a share buyback programme.

Meanwhile, Shaftesbury’s share price rallied 4.83% to finish the day at 553.5p.

Shares also surged at retailer JD Sports, which today criticised “intransigent” landlords after posting a decline in profit. It ended the day up 9.8% to 795.8p.  

Housebuilder Vistry Group was among the biggest fallers on the FTSE 250, down 5.6% to 600p. The company reported a £12.2m loss during the six months to 30 June.

The FTSE 100 dipped 0.12% to 5,930.30. The FTSE 250 fell 0.1% to 17,625.18.
