London stocks suffered sharp falls on Monday, as did those in Europe and the US, as fears over the economic impact of another wave of Covid-19 grew.
The FTSE 100 ended the day down by 2.4% at 6,839, its lowest since early April. The FTSE 250 dropped by 2.3% to finish at 21,940, also a low of more than three months.
In the FTSE 100, there were just four rising stocks, led by a gain of 3.3% for Just Eat. In a trading update last week, the company said delivery order growth in the UK hit 733% in the first half of 2021 compared with a year earlier.
Among the real estate companies to post a rise over the day was Henry Boot, up by 4.2% to 272p after a trading update in which the company said its financial performance during the latest half-year will be ahead of management’s expectations.
