Market wrap: Stocks tumble as virus fears grow

Stock markets on both side of the Atlantic dropped further on Thursday, as investors’ concerns over the economic impact of coronavirus heightened.

The FTSE 100 was down 3.5%, or 246 points, at 6,796, while the FTSE 250 dropped by 4%, or 839.5, to 19,783.

Major property stocks joined the fall. Shares in intu closed down 7.5% at 12.8p, with the company now valued at £187m. Hammerson fell almost 9% to 207p.

British Land’s and Landsec’s share prices both closed down 4.9% at 505p and 863.6p respectively. Segro posted a smaller drop of 2.8%, closing at 857.4p.
