Marks anchor Welwyn

Marks & Spencer are to anchor Slough Estates’ Howard Centre at Welwyn Garden City, Herts.

They will occupy some 50,000 sq ft on two floors of the 215,000-sq ft shopping scheme which is planned to open next summer.

Roger Carey, director of Slough, said: “We are delighted that Marks & Spencer are the first retailers into the Howard Centre. Their reputation as high-quality retailers is unsurpassed and this new store will be a big attraction to shoppers in and around Welwyn Garden City.”

The centre will link to a new bus station and a 700-space car park. Healey & Baker are agents.

Meanwhile, M&S have taken a 25,000-sq ft unit for their food-only operation in the Broadwalk shopping centre, Edgware Road, being developed by Norwich Union.

The scheme, which opens next March, also includes a 65,000-sq ft Sainsbury store and 30 shops.

Healey & Baker are advising the developers, while Prevezer & Co acted for M&S.
