Plans for the redevelopment of a 40-acre industrial site alongside Cardiff’s River Taff have been revealed, promising 2,500 homes as well as new work and retail space.
The masterplan for developer Vastint UK’s mixed-use Embankment on Dumballs Road is now open for public consultation until mid-February, with the developer aiming to submit an outline planning application soon after. As well as new homes – 12.5% of which will be affordable – the site will have business, leisure, hospitality and retail space.
The developer hopes the project will reconnect the city centre with the bay and offer new cycling and walking connections between the districts of Grangetown and Butetown. Cardiff Council has described the plans as a “significant investment” for the city, and sold Vastint UK 8.5 acres of land for the project last September.
Andrew Cobden, managing director of Vastint UK, said: “Cardiff has a beautiful river running through its centre but access to it has been limited for many years. We are excited to bring forward proposals that will breathe new life into the riverfront, by opening up access through a new riverside park, and provide opportunities for new jobs and housing.”
Vastint UK has previously developed Aire Park in Leeds and Sugar House Island in London.
