Matthews & Goodman buys City agency Chapman Bates

Property advisory firm Matthews & Goodman has acquired a niche City agent Chapman Bates, which Cluttons had also been in talks to buy.

Matthews & Goodman has bought 12-year old Chapman Bates to further boost its presence in the capital.

The deal will see London Wall-based Chapman Bates directors Alastair Chapman and Oliver Bates, and surveyors Ed Moore and James Arthur, join the business on 2 June.

The Chapman Bates name will cease, and the team will move to Matthews & Goodman’s London offices at 33 Robert Adam Street, W1, and 21 Ironmonger Lane, EC2.

The company also has offices in Liverpool and Manchester, and in total employs more than 100 people.

Richard Clarke, city partner at Matthews & Goodman, said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm this strategic move, which sees us strengthen our presence in the very buoyant central London office market.”

Alastair Chapman added: “The synergy to be created in bringing together many years of City and central London experience into a team of like-minded people should prove beneficial to our clients as we broaden the scope and depth of advice already available from within Matthews & Goodman.”

In March, it was reported that Cluttons had entered talks to buy Chapman Bates. However, no deal was agreed.
