Theresa May does not seem to support her housing minister’s suggestion that inheritance skip a generation in order to help younger people onto the housing ladder.
A spokesman for the prime minister said the comments were personal and did not reflect policy. The important point for government policy is building enough homes, he said.
Saga’s director of communications, Paul Green, said it would be better to eliminate stamp duty for older people seeking to downsize.
